Zion-St. John's roots can be traced back to the 1800's.  St. John Lutheran Church of Germantown founded its school in 1879.  Twenty-five years later, Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina organized its Christian day school.  Both schools provided excellent opportunities to give daily instruction in Christian teachings for its students from Kindergarten through Grade Eight.

In 1976 the two schools consolidated to form Zion-St. John.  Though the schools have a long history, the education provided is definitely not old-fashioned.  Our school provides the finest of educational materials and we are constantly updating our facilities and curriculum.  Our students are provided additional technological skills in our up-to-date computer laboratory.  In addition, each classroom also has computer and internet access.  Musical instruction includes vocal and instrumental opportunities.  Daily instruction is given in physical education, and students in grades five through eight are able to participate in inter-school athletic competition.  Zion-St. John provides a Christian atmosphere that strives to develop each student's spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth.  We understand from the Bible that we are God's children, empowered by His Holy Spirit to develop the characteristics necessary for success as a Christian citizen.  We believe that these elementary school years best provide the groundwork to develop the basic educational skills for successive years of education and life skills for occupational living as God's people, no matter where we find ourselves.  We pray each day that God, our Heavenly Father, will guide and keep us in the true faith until that day He calls us to Himself.  To God all praise and glory!
